Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has again expressed his willingness to pay N30, 600 as new minimum wage to workers in the state.
He said this in Kano during the inauguration of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) executives for the 44 local government areas in the state.
The governor promised to continue working in harmony with labour oragnisations in the state for the benefit of the workers.
On his part, the Chairman, Kano state chapter of NLC, Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibirn, however, advised the state government to reduce cost of governance by cutting down on unnecessary financial commitment so as to make payment of the new minimum wage easier for the state.
He also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to use his executive powers and over-rule “the non-progressive governors to pass the tripartite committee recommendation to the legislature for action.”
He faulted the claims by some state governors that they would not pay N30, 000 as the new national minimum wage to their workers, blaming their reckless spending on extravagant lifestyle.
While appealing to the president to use his prerogative powers to bring to an end the lingering crisis, he said N30, 000 was not a living wage for a Nigerian worker given the prevailing economic situation.
